Celebrations of Motherhood

Why a Mother Blessing?

A Mother’s Blessing, also known as a blessingway, is an opportunity to create a celebration that  honours a mother-to-be and her journey into birth and motherhood. This ritual is derived from a Navajo tradition that recognises and honours the birth of a baby and the transition to motherhood as a momentous occasion in a woman’s life. Unlike many other celebrations of pregnancy and birth, at a Mother Blessing the mother-to-be and her experience are at the center of the ritual.  It is all about honouring the mother-to-be and can be a profound experience for the expectant mother and the women who take part.

Sadly, in todays fast paced world we do not take the time to share together many rituals. For many, weddings and funerals are the extent to rituals that they experience in their everyday lives. But there is power in ritual. It marks transition, it affirms important values, and it provides an opportunity to connect with women in a special way free of distractions. When women connect, we celebrate our femininity. And that physical gathering of a tribe is profound. Especially as a women becomes a mother, knowing she has her tribe around her is vital.

A Mother Blessing is a chance for a woman’s tribe to show her that they are there for her, that they support her, they care for her and that they are raising their collective energy to wish her well on her journey to birth and motherhood. The rituals are a special moment in time for the group to share together and then step back into their daily lives enriched by that experience.

What does a Mother Blessing include?

Mother Blessings are highly personalised to the mother-to-be being celebrated and her family and friends. They include traditional elements of spiritual ritual, music, stories, sharing stories and wisdom and honouring the mother-to-be with gifts and pampering.

We set an intention for the Blessing, something to focus on, and ensure that the ritual is always focussed on honouring the mother and bringing her energy, support and love.

Together I work with the mother-to-be or the Mother Blessing host to create the perfect celebration. We will discuss together and plan location, guests, invitations, programme, music, food, etc. On the day of the Mother Blessing I will guide the group through the ritual ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and included.

There are so many beautiful, creative and personal rituals we can include to create the most perfect celebration. Get in touch today and lets start planning!
